Timmins, ON – December 20, 2023 – Timmins and District Hospital (TADH) continues to combine innovation and technology to connect patients to high quality care options. Most recently, the hospital expanded the use of a digital patient engagement platform called SeamlessMD, to guide and monitor patients undergoing cataract surgery – becoming the first hospital in Canada to do so.
Three years ago, TADH enrolled their first patient on SeamlessMD, a virtual companion for patients to receive support before their procedure and throughout their recovery with personalized education, progress-tracking, and post-op symptom monitoring. The program is also being implemented to support and monitor patients living with mental health and addiction challenges.
To date over 1,400 patients have used the program at TADH, which has resulted in a 20 per cent reduction in patient readmission within 30 days of discharge and a 40 per cent reduction in emergency department visits within seven days of discharge for planned procedures.
“Ensuring patients have timely access to quality supports to keep them healthy and well at all points along their health care journey is vital,” shares Kate Fyfe, TADH President and CEO. Joan Ludwig, TADH Chief Nursing Executive further states that, “This digital monitoring plan allows our care team to connect with patients virtually during their recovery to provide supports and help when and where they need it.”
“We are incredibly proud to partner with TADH, a true pioneer in embracing digital healthcare innovations in Canada,” adds SeamlessMD Co-founder and CEO, Dr. Joshua Liu. “Their decision to implement SeamlessMD for cataract surgery underscores their commitment to advancing patient care through leading technology, which has already led to remarkable improvements in patient outcomes, such as reducing readmissions and emergency department visits for patients. This collaboration is a testament to our shared vision of leveraging technology to ensure every patient gets the right care at the right time.”
