WBTV news, one of North Carolina’s news divisions, recently published a news segment highlighting our innovation with Atrium Health designed to help tackle the opioid crisis.
Click here to watch the news segment on Atrium Health’s partnership with SeamlessMD to learn more about the END Opioids initiative.
In the news segment, Misty Eller, Advanced Nurse Practitioner at Atrium Health, discusses the initiative that was launched earlier this year called END Opioids (Educational iNteractive Dashboard for Opioids). The initiative aims to ensure patients undergoing surgery are educated about opioid risk, safe and effective pain management post-surgery and personalized strategies to prevent opioid overuse.
Surgical patients are frequently prescribed opioid medications to treat acute pain after surgery, which can increase the risk of developing an opioid addiction – especially for opioid-naïve patients. Atrium Health recognized that digital patient engagement platforms, such as SeamlessMD, can more effectively track opioid risk by allowing patients to complete opioid risk-scoring surveys to measure patient risk and by providing personalized education on pain, opioids, and non-opioid pain control. Healthcare providers receive real-time risk data which helps them proactively determine which patients might be at risk for opioid use disorders or misuse. Thus, providers can intervene when necessary to avoid potential issues.
This addition of advanced opioid tracking and analytics modules compliments Atrium Health’s existing use of SeamlessMD for pre and post-surgery patient engagement, a partnership which started in 2018.
Within the first 6 months of launching the END Opioids initiative, 91% of surgery patients signed up for SeamlessMD and 46% of patients continued to use the program through the 30-day postoperative period.
