Strathroy, Ontario – Tuesday July 19, 2024 – Today, Middlesex Hospital Alliance (MHA) is thrilled to announce the expansion of SeamlessMD, a Digital Care Journey platform, to support patients undergoing foot surgery. Building on the success of the platform’s launch for hip and knee replacements, MHA is now leveraging this innovative technology to further enhance patient engagement and remote monitoring for foot surgery patients.
With SeamlessMD, patients undergoing surgery at MHA are guided from pre-surgical preparation through post-surgical recovery via personalized education, progress-tracking, and post-op symptom monitoring using their own device (e.g. smartphone, tablet, computer). After surgery while recovering at home, patients can access education and self-report data such as pain scores, symptoms, range-of-motion, opioid consumption, and share photos of their wounds through the platform remotely. Meanwhile, providers can monitor patients on dashboards and receive alerts for serious concerns, allowing for faster intervention if necessary.
Since SeamlessMD’s initial implementation for hip and knee surgeries last year, the program has achieved remarkable results: 310 patients have been enrolled at an 81% patient activation rate, while 100% of surveyed patients reported feeling more confident before surgery, and 92% felt more confident at home after surgery. Additionally, 82% of patients indicated that SeamlessMD helped prevent at least one call to the hospital, elevating the experience for both patients and healthcare providers. SeamlessMD has already provided over 430 hours of education to MHA patients.
Dr. Raghav Rajgopal, the physician champion for SeamlessMD and foot surgeon at MHA, emphasized the positive impact of the expansion: “SeamlessMD has been instrumental in enhancing our patients’ surgical journeys. By expanding the platform to include foot surgery, we are empowering more patients with personalized education and support, leading to improved patient confidence and outcomes.”
Julie McBrien, President & CEO of Middlesex Hospital Alliance, expressed excitement about the expansion: “The success of SeamlessMD with our hip and knee surgery patients encouraged us to extend its benefits to foot surgery. This partnership aligns well with our strategic priorities to Collaborate for Exceptional Care & Experiences and Advance How We Deliver Care, which are the foundation of our new and recently released MHA Strategic Plan. With the support of innovative technologies, we are ensuring that our patients receive the best possible experience throughout their healthcare journeys.”
